Height and size for the fashion world
The fashion industry is undoubtedly one in which certain physical characteristics are necessary factors and discriminating.
The modeling agencies are often accused by the media to promote tall and skinny girls as beautiful girl or handsome boys.
The models and modeling agencies acting on the basis of what the customers want, and not just designers, and customers what they want on the catwalks and in the newspapers performs better and is more successful of the very tall ones!
It is a kind of vicious circle that so far no one has managed to break, in part because the indication of size and minimum height are also born from a specific need.
The minimum height and a certain size are required because a model or a model must be able to wear without major problems the sample collection of designers who, for example in the case of the woman, is created on the basis of the so-called size 40 long.
It 's normal and necessary to have a benchmark on which to create a sample and if a model is several inches lower than 1.73 m the dress will fall ill and go readjusted.
Imagine that this happens for all 20 models chosen for a parade, because their heights and sizes are too different between them. This would create a super job on the one hand organizational seamstresses and assistants parade and the other the optical performance of the parade would be uneven. Disappear attention to the dress and you would notice the physical differences. And this is not what the designer wants for the presentation and the launch of his collection. The model on the catwalk wearing a dress that is the real star of the show, everything else has to go more or less unnoticed.
The collection to be sold is then obviously produced in a variety of sizes and will be the point of sale to take charge of any corrections tailored apparel based on the specific needs of customers.
How to take measurements
First of all readings should be taken with the minimum of clothes on. The best would be with only underwear in the case of women bra should not be padded, for obvious reasons ... While in the case of the measurement of the trousers inside and outside of man is better to have a pants wearing a classic cut.
We start from the WOMEN.
The circumference of the breast:
Standing in front of the girl slide a tape measure around the bust, at the circumference of the bra. Take the measurement tendedo meter height of the nipples but not too tightly. Ideally, the meter should be just resting, held tight just enough so that when you loosen the tension meter falls.
Reference measurements are 80 to 84 for fashion and 85 to 92 cm for commercial.
Should be taken to bare skin at the navel. Even in this case, the meter must be just placed on the skin, without tightening.
If you need to evaluate the fit of garments with low waist, the measurement should be taken a couple of inches below the navel.
Reference measurements are from 55 to 59cm for fashion and up to 62 for commercial
The hip circumference:
The hip circumference is often to discuss. I happened to take steps to aspiring models who gave me the hag, to say the least, because I had seen in more than 5cm hips compared to what they had said.
The reason was by both parties. From the girls who took the measure of the hips just below the waist and on the side of the undersigned where he was taking the measure to be taken, namely at the point just above the maximum amplitude of the side.
Sometimes this number scares, but it is what it is to indicate whether a girl can enter or not acting within the collection of a particular designer.
And if at the time of the offending number is too high, with a proper diet - which is not in any way mean deprivation - and a bit 'of movement, you can get good and lasting results. I see it happen all the time.
Reference measurements are 86 to 89 cm for fashion and up to 94 for commercial
And now the MEN
The same reasoning applied to women for what concerns the circumferential chest, waist and hips.
Two major measures for the man in the fashion world are the neck circumference and length of the trousers.
The circumference of the neck:
It never happened to talk to a guy who did not know the extent of his neck, unless it was always just my mother to buy some shirts!
Seriously ... The extent of the neck is almost always expressed in "Inches". This is an English unit of measurement corresponding to about 2.5 cm (see the Resources section for the Conversion Table).
If you need to take the measure you simply slide the meter at the base of the neck where you should close the collar of a shirt.
If for example the neck measurement results to be of approximately 39 cm, the equivalent in Inches will be 15 1/2. We have said that an Inch is roughly equal to 2.5 cm and then 39: 2.5 = about 15.5.
And so on for other measures.
Measurements of length of trousers:
The measurement of the trouser is achieved inside by placing one end of the meter at the height of the horse inside of the trouser leg and sliding the meter, relatively tight fit to the inside seam of the pants, right on the shoe.
The measurement of the trousers exterior is obtained starting from the point just below the waist of the trousers on one side and pulling the meter also in this case since the shoe.
